Clear aligners suit most adult cases and win on appearance, comfort and eating normally. Fixed braces still have the edge for complex movements and for patients who won't reliably wear a removable appliance. The right answer depends on your bite and your habits, not on marketing.

When we'd suggest fixed braces

  • Significant bite discrepancies needing large, controlled movements.
  • Teenagers or adults who know they won't wear a removable appliance consistently.
  • Cases where a specialist orthodontic referral is the more predictable route — we'll say so.

Invisalign & straightening: your questions on this topic

Can Invisalign fix an overbite?

Often yes, using aligners with attachments and elastics. Severe skeletal discrepancies may need a specialist opinion.

Which is faster?

They're broadly comparable. Aligners can be quicker for mild cases; complex cases are led by biology, not the appliance.

Can I switch mid-treatment?

It's possible but rarely ideal. It's better to plan properly at the consultation stage.
