How long does Invisalign take, and does it hurt?

Typical timelines Minor front-tooth crowding or relapse · 4–6 months Moderate crowding or spacing · 6–12 months Full-arch alignment with bite correction · 12–18 months+ These are ranges, not promises. After your scan you'll see a predicted number of aligners for your own mouth, which is a far better guide than an average. What it actually feels like Day one of a new aligner: noticeable tightness, similar to firm pressure rather than pain. Day two to three: the ache fades as the teeth respond. Rest of the week: the aligner feels passive and you largely forget it's there. Speech: a slight lisp for the first few days, then it goes. The thing that decides your finish date Wear time. Aligners need 20–22 hours a day. They come out to eat and to drink anything other than water, and go straight back in. Patients who treat that as optional add months to their treatment — it's the single biggest cause of delays we see. Small tooth-coloured attachments help aligners grip and rotate teeth, and tiny amounts of enamel polishing (IPR) can create space. Both are routine, painless, and explained in your plan before treatment starts.

Invisalign & straightening: your questions on this topic
Can I take my aligners out for a night out?
Occasionally, yes — but every hour out is an hour of treatment lost. Try to keep it rare and make up wear time afterwards.
Will Invisalign affect my speech?
Slightly, for a few days. Almost everyone adapts within a week.
What if I lose an aligner?
Go back to your previous aligner and call us the same day. We'll advise whether to move forward or order a replacement.
How often will I be seen?
Usually every 6–10 weeks, with some checks done remotely depending on your plan.
