What happens at your first visit to Cadbury Dental

What happens at your first visit to Cadbury Dental — Visiting us guide from Cadbury Dental, a private dental practice in Bournville, Birmingham

Your first visit is an assessment, not a production line. We take a history, examine your teeth, gums and soft tissues, take any necessary X-rays, then explain what we found and what — if anything — you need. You leave with a written plan and clear costs.

On the day

  1. 1Arrival and a short medical history — medications and health conditions genuinely affect dental treatment.
  2. 2A conversation first: what's been bothering you, what you'd like to change, anything you're anxious about.
  3. 3Full examination: teeth, existing restorations, gum health screening and an oral cancer check.
  4. 4X-rays where clinically justified, to see what an examination can't.
  5. 5Findings explained on screen, with photos where useful.
  6. 6A written plan and costs, with time to think about it.

What to bring

  • A list of your current medications.
  • Details of any recent dental treatment elsewhere.
  • Your questions — write them down, they're easy to forget in the chair.

Visiting us: your questions on this topic

How long is the first appointment?

Allow around 30–45 minutes depending on whether X-rays and a hygiene assessment are included.

Will I have treatment on the first visit?

Usually not, unless you're in pain. The first visit is for diagnosis and planning.

Do you see children?

Yes. Early, uneventful visits are the best thing you can do for a child's long-term relationship with the dentist.

Is there parking?

There's on-street and local parking around Sycamore Road; the practice is also well served by bus and rail.
